About The Course

Dr. M V Shetty College of Nursing was started in the year 1987 which is the first ever private nursing college in Karnataka. College Celebrated silver jubilee in the year 2012 and Tri-decennial celebration in the year 2017.

The course prepares its graduates to become exemplary citizen by adhering to code of ethics and professional conduct at all times in fulfilling personal, social and professional obligations so as to respond to national aspirations.

The B.Sc. nursing degree program is a four-year fulltime program comprising eight semesters, which prepares B.Sc. nursing graduates qualified to practice nursing and midwifery in a variety of settings in either public/government or private healthcare settings. It adopts credit system and semester system. The program encompasses foundational, core and elective courses. The choice-based system is applicable to electives only and is offered in the form of modules. Modular learning is also integrated in the foundational as well as core courses that are mandatory.

The curriculum for B.Sc. Nursing degree program is revised and embraces competency-based and outcome-based approach throughout the program integrating mastery learning and self-directed learning.

Our Aims

  • Produce knowledgeable competent nurses and midwives with clear critical thinking skills who are caring, motivated, assertive and well-disciplined responding to the changing needs of profession, healthcare delivery system and society.
  • Prepare them to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative healthcare services in any healthcare setting.

Admission & Curriculum Information

Qualifying Examination:

Candidates seeking admission to the first Basic B.Sc. Nursing course must meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Passed the two-year Pre University examination conducted by the Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka State, with the following qualifications:

    • Subjects: English (compulsory), Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (optional).
    • Minimum Marks: At least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English (PCBE) combined.
    • For SC/ST or Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates: Minimum marks reduced to 40% instead of 50% in PCBE.
  2. Passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate Education established by State Governments/Central Government and recognized as equivalent to the two-year Pre University examination by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences/Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with the following qualifications:

    • Subjects: English (compulsory), Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (optional).
    • Minimum Marks: At least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English combined.
    • For SC/ST or OBC candidates: Minimum marks reduced to 40% instead of 50% in PCBE.
  3. For candidates from the Vocational Higher Secondary Course conducted by the Board of Vocational Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala:

    • Minimum of 5 subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English in addition to the vocational subject.
    • Minimum Marks: At least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English combined.
    • For SC/ST or OBC candidates: Minimum marks reduced to 40% instead of 50% in PCBE.
Medical Fitness:
  • Candidates must be medically fit for admission.
Eligibility for Admission:
  • Pass in 10+2 or Pre-University examination conducted by the Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka, or an equivalent qualification recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  • Compulsory Subjects: English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Minimum Marks: Not less than 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English (40% for SC/ST candidates).
  • For candidates who have passed vocational courses of HSE, Kerala, with domestic nursing:
    • Minimum of 5 subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, in addition to vocational subjects.
    • Minimum Marks: Not less than 45% marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English (40% for SC/ST candidates).

Pedagogy in Bachelor of Science (BSc) Nurse Education is a dynamic framework crucial for shaping future healthcare professionals. This multifaceted approach encompasses diverse teaching strategies, each designed to prepare nursing students for their vital roles in patient care.

  • Programme outline : The revised curriculum embraces competency based and outcome based approach throught the programme integrating mastery learning and self directed learning. Transformational and relationship based educational approaches are emphasized.
  • Core competencies for nursing practice : competencies that reflect practice standards of the council address the areas of cultural diversity ,communication technology , team work and collaboratin , safety , quality , therapeutic interventions and evidence based practice .
  • Modular learning : the prepared modules outlined by the council will be provided in separate learning resource package . The learners use a self learning module either in print or digital format depending on the applicability .
  • Simulated learning experience: simulation provides a realistic setting and safe environment for students to apply the knowledge they learned in class and apply it to clinical practice . This experience is given in the skill lab .
  • Clinical training : clinical experience will enable Students to prepare their skills which they learn in theory . supervised learning experiences is given in real  hospital settings in which the student provides or observes direct patient care .students develop clinical skills .
  • Community  Service : nursing is a profession based around people  caring for people in the community is an important service . students provide supervised care for individual , family and groups at boh urban and rural setting by using concepsts and principles of health . students conduct various health education programmes and other extended services in the community.
  • Continuous assessment: regular assessment shall be conducted throught the course for theory and practical in the form of internal examination and assignments, marks will be sent to the university as internal assessment. Slow learners are identified and are given with extra coaching and added attentionResearch and innovations  : students work on  research  porojects with their guides and present their findings ,this helps students to provide evidence to support innovative nursing practices .
