About Dr. M.V. Shetty Memorial Trust (R)

Late Dr. M.V. Shetty, MS, FRCS, FRFPS, was a distinguished figure known for his exceptional contributions across multiple domains. His professional excellence in surgery, coupled with a deep involvement in rehabilitation, set a remarkable precedent. Dr. Shetty assumed leadership roles in the state-run institution of Home Guards and worked as a dedicated surgeon at the first private Surgical Specialty Hospital in Dakshina Kannada District. As a Distinguished Professor of Surgery at KMC, Honorary Medical Officer at Government Wenlock Hospital, Director of the Lions Limb Centre, and Commandant of the D.K. Home Guards, he left an indelible mark on the healthcare and community service sectors. Dr. Shetty’s profound dedication and humane approach garnered respect from patients, colleagues, fellow doctors, students, and the general public. Beyond his medical prowess, he was known for his love of music and proficiency in playing the tabla, and his warm, understanding demeanor endeared him to students and peers alike. His legacy continues to inspire and uplift the fields he touched.

Dr. M. Ram Gopal Shetty, established Dr.M.V. Shetty Memorial Trust in 1985 inspired by his father, Dr. M. Venugopal Shetty.

Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial Trust was established by Dr. M. Ramgopal Shetty, who served as the Secretary and Executive Officer of the Trust. Dr. M.R. Shetty was a prominent figure closely associated with academic institutions such as Mangalore University and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences from their early days. He contributed significantly to the vocationalization of courses, particularly in the allied medical field within the framework of university education.

Dr.L.Gladson Jose is currently serving as Principal. He has done Diploma in Teacher Education and then gone for physiotherapy studies. He received his Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy from College of Physiotherapy, SRIPMS Coimbatore. He holds his Masters in Advanced cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy from College of Physiotherapy JKKMMRF, Komarapalayam under The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University.
He has done M.Sc. from University of Madras, M.Phil. in psychology and PhD in the field of Psychophysiotherapy from Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore. He has done Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management as well Guidance and Counseling.He started his journey as Lecturer in physiotherapy from Cherraan’s college of physiotherapy, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in the year 1997. He worked as Principal of Sandhya Institute of physiotherapy, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh and Nandha college of physiotherapy, Erode, Tamil Nadu.He has beed served as BOS Member in Physiotherapy and also expert committee member for BPT & MPT Syllabus committee under The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University Chennai; Yenepoya University, Mangalore and Member BOS in PG physiotherapy of RGUHS, Bangalore.He has been the Task force member of National model curriculum for Physiotherapy under NIAHS, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.
He has been honoured by many awards He is the recipient of “Best Teacher Award” from The TN Dr. MGR Medical University Chennai in 2011; “Supremacy in Physiotherapy” during Physiotroops 2011; Scroll of honor by South Canara Physiotherapy Teachers Association during Mangalore Physiocon 2017; Dr. M.G.Mokashi’s Professional Excellency Award from IAP, KSPF, BPN and Physiotherapy Job Portal during Bangalore Physiocon 2017; Senior Fellowship Award during Physioblast 2017; “Life time Contribution Award” of IAP-Madurai Chapter in 2018; “Best Academician Award” by Indian Association of Physiotherapists (TN) in 2020; He has been honoured by RGUHS, Bangalore as “Eminent Teacher in physiotherapy” in 2020.
He is a recognized guide who guided many BPT and MPT students in projects and dissertations. His specialty is cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, psycho-physiotherapy and sports management. He is a good academician and administrator. He served as chairperson, convener of state and national level seminar and conferences. He presented many scientific paper and poster presentations in different conferences.
